Location: Olivedale, Randburg · System: Adjustable Louvre — white

The brief
A face-brick house with an entertainment area against a brick garden wall and an established garden down one side. A patio like this has everything except a reason to sit in it after four in the afternoon or before four in winter.
The finished thing is what this page is really about: white, soft and lit, rather than a bare structure photographed on handover day.
What we built
An adjustable louvre roof finished white throughout, on posts at the open edges. Under a white blade line the whole space stays bright even with the roof shut, which is what makes a covered patio feel like a room rather than a carport.
The outdoor curtains hanging between the posts and the pendant lights beneath the blades are worth pointing at, because they show what a patio structure becomes once it is furnished rather than photographed empty on handover day.

Plan the soft finishes before the frame is made
Curtains, heaters, lights and speakers all end up attached to a patio structure, usually a season after it goes up and usually with a bracket that nobody planned for.
Tell us at the site visit and it costs nothing to accommodate. Post spacing can suit a curtain drop; a beam can carry a light point. Retrofitting the same thing later means drilling a finished powder-coated section.
The specification behind it
- Adjustable aluminium louvre roof, white throughout
- Posts at the open edges, spaced for an unobstructed seating area
- Manual gearbox or automated operation
- All-round gutter with downpipe outlets set on site
- 15-year guarantee on aluminium, 10-year on Chromadek®
White on white, and why it works outdoors
Indoors, a white ceiling over white walls can go flat. Outdoors it does the opposite: with sky at the edges and planting around it, a white blade line reads as light rather than as an absence of colour.
It also makes the space usable later into the evening. A single pendant under white blades lights a patio that the same pendant under charcoal barely touches.
If you’re considering the same
If you are picturing curtains, decide roughly where they will hang before the structure is measured. It is a five-minute conversation on site and an expensive change afterwards.
