Suburbs we cover in Johannesburg
We work right across the city and out to the West and East Rand. Each area below has its own page covering what suits the houses there and any jobs we have photographed in it.
- Sandton and Morningside: jobs in Bryanston, Woodmead, Sandown and Morningside. We also cover Benmore, Parkmore, Illovo, Rivonia and Hyde Park.
- Fourways and Dainfern: the motorised louvre at Dainfern Estate, a terrace louvre in Lonehill and a flat patio roof near Lanseria. Also Sunninghill, Broadacres and Cedar Lakes.
- Randburg: Randpark Ridge, Olivedale, Northriding and Fairlands. Also Ferndale, Blairgowrie and Linden.
- Roodepoort and the West Rand: Wilgeheuwel, Constantia Kloof, Ruimsig, Radiokop and Muldersdrift. Also Honeydew, Little Falls, Weltevreden Park and Featherbrooke.
- Midrand: a louvre with a matching aluminium slat screen. Also Waterfall, Kyalami and Carlswald.
- Johannesburg East and Kew: a family patio louvre in Abbotsford and an insulated ceiling in Kew. Also Bramley, Highlands North, Norwood and Melrose.
- Bedfordview and Edenvale: including Morninghill, Dowerglen and Greenstone.
- Benoni and the East Rand: a two-bay poolside louvre in Germiston, and a louvre with downlights and an insulated ceiling in Benoni.

Highveld storms and where the water goes
Summer here brings hot mornings and hard afternoon storms that dump rain fast, often sideways and sometimes with hail. What decides if you keep using the patio through one is where that water goes.
Every louvre, fixed IBR and ceiling system we build has a full all-round gutter, with the downpipe outlets placed on site, so rain is taken to your stormwater instead of sheeting off the front edge onto the paving. With the blades closed, our louvre awnings are 95% watertight in Highveld storms. They are not built to be 100% waterproof, and in wind-driven rain a little can get through the blade line. If you need a fully closed roof, an insulated patio ceiling or a fixed IBR awning is guaranteed waterproof under standard Highveld rainstorms, provided the gutters and downpipes are kept clear.
Two habits keep a louvre working: clean the valleys in the blades, and don't let a neighbouring roof empty onto the awning, because that can overload the gutters. Clear leaves out before the rains start, especially under the big trees of the older suburbs. There is more on this in how we make awnings 95% watertight.
Estates, double storeys and older houses
What a Johannesburg patio needs changes from one suburb to the next. Estates around Fourways and Dainfern have architectural guidelines, so colour and roof line are often set for you and there is usually an approval step before anything is installed. We build each system to the site rather than to stock sizes, so working to a guideline is normal.
On double-storey homes the first question is where the water goes. Multiple downpipe outlets let us run it to the existing stormwater rather than down the middle of a wall. In older parts of Randburg and Johannesburg East the patio often exists already, usually as a slab that isn't quite square, and the job is fitting a roof to what is there. Either way, we confirm every measurement on site before anything is made.
Colour comes from our four standard finishes: Black, Charcoal, Bronze and Traffic White. The frame and the blades can differ, and a charcoal frame with white blades is the combination we are asked for most. You can see it in Bryanston, Randpark Ridge, Lonehill and Abbotsford above.
Manual or motorised
Every louvre we make can be opened by a manual gearbox or automated. The Dainfern Estate louvre is the motorised one on this page, with its drive visible along the beam. On a wide span, a motor means the blades actually get adjusted through the day. Our guide to motorised and manual louvres goes through the choice.
Our 15-year guarantee covers the aluminium, meaning the louvre carriers, posts and blades, against rust, paint chipping and corrosion. Our motorised louvres run on Somfy motors, and the motor is covered by Somfy's warranty.
Where we're based
Patio Projex works from 26 Piet Retief Rd, Harveston AH, Roodepoort, 2040, the address on our Google Business Profile. The West Rand and Randburg are closest to us, and we cover the rest of Johannesburg the same way: a site visit to measure before manufacture, then installation by our team.
